Description1
The goal of Mecklenburg County’s Community Relations effort is to increase civic participation in County government and increase levels of awareness about County programs, services and initiatives. Projects like
Bringing Mecklenburg County to You
, the launch of the County’s first Community Resources Center in 2018 and multiple
Park and Recreation projects
in various stages benefit from face-to-face interactions with decision-makers. As a division of the County’s
Public Information Department
, Community Relations helps facilitate these conversations and meetings. Below are links to find out how you can get involved.
Objective
To engage the community in County initiatives and increase resident awareness of County responsibilities and services.
Our Vision
Mecklenburg County will become nationwide leaders in community engagement through building awareness, transparency, and providing opportunities for active civic participation.
Community Relations Principles
Awareness
– All residents should be made aware of ongoing initiatives and programs through traditional and non-traditional media in wide-reaching and equitable formats.
Transparency
- All residents should be knowledgeable on how to get in touch with their County officials in order to facilitate problem solving and meaningful engagement through simple resident inquiry.
Active Civic Participation
- Involve residents in shaping community life. Residents should have multiple opportunities to articulate self-interests and values in both large forums and small group discussions.
