Community Survey Reports

Each year Mecklenburg County conducts the Community Survey, a public opinion poll to assess awareness and perceptions of County services. The 2022 Community Survey represents the twentieth year that residents have been asked for their feedback in this way.

The survey is updated each year to reflect new initiatives and priorities within the community.

A few highlights from the 2022 Community Survey include:

  • Mecklenburg County received the highest percentage of being an excellent/good place to work (79%), as a place to live (70%), and the overall quality of life in the County (69%).

  • Three out of four respondents (75%) either “strongly agree” or “agree” with the statement that, “Mecklenburg County honors the identity of individuals and treats them with dignity and respect.”

  • The majority of respondents were either “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with the overall quality of services provided by the County (50%) and the customer service provided by County employees (54%).

  • Sixty-nine percent of respondents (69%) who contacted the County or visited the County’s website to ask a question or seek information about services, indicated that they would either be “extremely likely” or “likely” to recommend services provided by the County to others.

  • Two out of three respondents (66%) consider Mecklenburg County government to be open and transparent with information about issues, services, and performance.

  • Seventy-four percent of respondents (74%) believe that Mecklenburg County communicated information, regarding COVID-19, to them either “very well” or “well” over the past year.

  • Ratings (sum percentage of “excellent” and “good”) for County Park and Recreation sites that were visited by respondents, in the past 12 months, increased, with the highest ratings going to greenways (76%), recreation centers (76%), and nature preserves (74%).

  • The presentation (downloadable below) highlights trend data and some benchmark questions that compare Mecklenburg County results to national survey results.

  • A detailed report on the 2022 Community Survey is also available for download (below). You can also access the main Community Survey data via an online interactive dashboard that allows for exploration of the data and trends.
