Background
Anyone arrested in Mecklenburg County is brought to the Arrest Processing Center, adjacent to Jail Central located in uptown Charlotte. Arrestees are positively identified via fingerprinting, photographed, and brought before the magistrate for a probable cause hearing.
At the hearing, a bond is assigned by the magistrate; factors such as severity of the crime, risk of flight, and risk to the community are considered when determining the type and amount of bond set. The arrest processing stage is complete once the arrestee is either booked into jail or is able to meet his or her bond obligation, prior to being booked.
The Arrest Dashboard allows users to
explore changes over time in the volume of arrests and disaggregate
information by various characteristics, including race, gender, and age. The Arrest Dashboard contains information about arrests from 1/1/2013 to the present and operates on a one-day lag.
